    Halloween is coming

and we have already decided what we will all be. (No stealing our ideas...)

John- Viking, he has the shirt but will need a sword and shield, or some other weapon, and the hat with horns.... lol, I love it.
Jenny- ? (okay, maybe not all)
Dory- Dr/Midwife, scrubs, crocs, medical bag and stethoscope (too bad we don't have a fetascope)
Jack- Garden Gnome, Red hat w/ attached white beard, blue jacket, watering can

I admit, I was sceptical at first. But nothing is more perfect than Jack in a red, pointy hat.

    Score one for Mommy!

I could get you speculum for Dory's costume--one of the extra-larges if you want something scary.

    ewwwwwwww Ted!

I think a fetoscope would suffice.... besides, while my midwife (CPM/DE) didn't wear scrubs she didn't use speculums either... lol. Well, my CNMs did, so I guess we are mixing midwives here... maybe she can carry around a baby doll. But then she would just look like a NICU nurse.... hummmmm.....

Don't lie Ted - you are very weird.

You'd probably just tell Dory it was a metal duck.

So, do you have a fetoscope?

    Week from HELL

Yes, you read that right... It's been AWFUL. John doesn't even think he wants to come back after the tales I have had for him in the evening... Jack chewing on glass, Dory wearing a lamp shade as a skirt, full glass spilled milk twice, the worst tantrums ever... you name it... I was just waiting for the house to burn down at this rate. Thank the good Lord it didn't!
However, today Jack had an accident right as I thought things were going better. He ate an entire piece of dog food. He has his first major direct glutening.
I had no idea how he would react, puking, hyperactivity, diarrhea, or old school Jack symptoms like behind his ears going raw. Well, I can report, so far no puking. MASSIVE amounts of hyperactivity. Ask Grandma and Grandpa. We went out tonight for Grandma's birthday and tried out Outback's GF menu. (pretty good!) He was bouncing everywhere. It took awhile to get him to sleep.
Now I hear some massive tummy rumbles. I wonder what is in store for the morning... I;m putting my money on messy.

    :( Poor kid.

    Big Mamma's Attic

Dory got to go to a brand new program this morning at Church. I ended up going with her since her teachers were out sick. The poor kid jumped Sunday School rooms twice over the course, and when I had returned from dropping off Jack I found her in tears. It went from there, not getting better - not getting worse. She is impatient and did not want to hold the rope, sit, stand, clap, sway... you get the idea. She is normally very contrary after something minor, or sometimes for no reason... but I have to wonder what happened. There may or may not have been a correlation.
I really hope next week goes better for her.

    Cognative Leap

Dory had one this past week. I can not quantify it, but there were new understandings, new words and phrases, new things.... like a section of her brain just had the light switch flipped. It is awesome to see it, and to know it... but it is a milestone I can not explain like 'she took her first steps'. It's frustrating. She's 3.5, anyone know?

She jumped off the couch to talk on the phone, to unpromptedly tell her Great Grandmother 'Thank You' for some books, she drew a really good picture of an earwig (see sept 6th).. and there were other things too. Little things, things I am amazed I noticed. She now pushes her hair behind her ears, like I do.

Sounds like she's moving into the next phase of development--Oedipal, initiative/guilt, or preoperational depending on which psychodevelopmental theory you espouse. Usually starts around age 3, so she's right on track.

lol, is that what it is? If you say so... Tricia, do you concur?

    He can scale anything...

He was even caught climbing the red cooler and playing with things on the kitchen counter this week. Good grief. Nothing is safe now.

    OrganicFest vs. PukeFest

We *were* heading out to Asheville today for OrganicFest, a fun family outing... even though Jack has been unpredictably barfing on us over the past few nights. You never know when he is gonna' get you. Other than that, he's fine, acts completely fine... we thought maybe it was a food reaction.
Well, I suggested to John that we get breakfast at the house before heading out... and that was a minor disaster for Dory. It's not a food reaction as it turns out.
Asking for trouble, we grab a change of clothes for everyone, since we all - honestly- otherwise feel fine as long as we are not puking... and we head out. Until, that is, Dory calls out from the rear just before we leave our community, "Mom, I'm doing it again!"
We pulled over, helped her and headed right back to the house.
    *sigh*
    PukeFest wins.

    Dory's First Drawing

She showed me her first ever real drawing --- an earwig. We have several around the house, not harmful, just a nuisance...

And then drew another one, telling me how she did it.
First you draw the head, then the eyes, then the ears (antenna) then the legs....
    LOL.

There is a first for everything

And today it was the church nursery for Jack. 10 months old and he finally gets to go. Sadly, he is 2 weeks shy of being in Ba's class in the 1yr old hallway. And the class for his exact age has a danger for cross contamination of gluten from an earlier class so we are bumping him DOWN to the next younger group. He is with babies born in December and January rather than October and November... making him the big boy by a landslide at this age. None the less, I am overall fairly happy since they will vacuum the room before he arrives, know to watch out for crumbs and will be looking into providing gluten free snacks for the whole class so there is not a potential for a stray cheerio or graham cracker over the next year. Yes, I was nervous... for all the normal Mommy reasons, but also for the gluten issues. It went well, when I got back he was sitting on the mat chewing a toy phone with the other boys.

Dory went for her first time to the 3yr old class. She had a blast. :)
