I found a new use for prefolds and snappi's.... there is an icebag and bandage wrapped ankle in there.

    Bummer

So, I went to a wonderful Bar Mitzvah yesterday... Mazel Tov Max!!!
But very shortly after I came home, I sprained my ankle. BAD. The worst to date.
So, in rush Becky, the IL's and Grand in order to help. I am very thankful.
As I was sitting on the pavement outside cursing to high heaven and all my neighbors all I could think was *shit* I have 2 kids, both mobile, and one still locked in the car. Now what?!?!!
Well, John is on his way home from a wedding in Louisville... Congrats Kirk and Jackie! So all will be well soon... other than what do I do tomorrow? I hope mommies come to my rescue. I am sure it will all work out just fine, but I sure feel silly crawling around on the floor like Jack.

    Cruising

Just now, he went cruising across the back of the couch. I have known it was coming since he has been working up to it the past week. Pulling up on EVERYTHING and taking a few steps here and there. I wish he would learn to crawl first!

On Friday, 2 days ago, he went from commando crawling to hands and knees crawling.

    Jack's Birth Story

I don't know why I seem to have to wait 6 months to write about birth... It mist have something to do with the time frame where I no longer feel like I have a baby anymore.
    -------
I started labor pains on Sunday night and they continued through Monday morning. I got out of bed about 3 am and woke John to let him know I would be in the tub and not to get up. He went back to sleep for about 2 minutes, and then it registered. I was in the tub. This was for real. He was up and at 'em doing everything he could possibly think of. He wanted to call everyone then. I reminded him we had a ways to go. He busied himself while I relaxed and Dory slept. I got back out, went shuffling about and may have gone back to bed for a short while. Around 7 or 9am John called everyone to give them a heads up, especially Tricia so she could be on her was to come and watch Dory. The plan was loosely to go to lunch/dinner with Grandma and Grandpa Raymond and my Mom while we were laboring at the house. Dory woke up around 8am and played with us some until Auntie arrived. John had blown up the pool in the dinning room. I went back to the tub about 9am and when I had been in for a few minutes I felt my labor slow down and I nearly fell asleep in the tub. I got out and went to bed to rest, napping for about 30 minutes while listening to Enya. Lara showed up right as I was coming to and sat with me as we chatted about the birth and other things. I love having her around, she makes birth easy. As Lara and I were talking my midwife arrived with her assistant and 2 of her children. I got up and helped everyone get situated. It wasn't long before I headed out for a walk to get labor going again, the midwife left to go for a postpartum check, Tricia left with Dory to eat with Grandma and Grandpa and I kept blogging it all.

see http://jenraymond.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html for the rest... lol

    The Quarintine Continues.

It's driving me NUTS. Dory is now full fledge sick, and Jack is still suffering and I swear if I don't get us all well and out and about soon, I am going to SCREAM!!! I HATE being sick. I hate feeling isolated nearly as much as I hate the idea of passing the yuckies on to others.
I hate watching friends play outside knowing that if I went out to join them that they would likely get sick and miss work and pay.... I wouldn't be a very good friend if I did that.
But man oh man do I want to go and play too.

    The Garden Begins

Dory finally got around to getting her garden planted.... okay, I finally got around to getting her outside to plant it. We put in 4 plants... basil, bee balm, oregano and sage.... and 5 kinds of seeds... 2 flowers, marigolds and then carrots, kale and new zealand spinach. We'll see how they do. She did great and then we came back inside and watched capsule sponges grow and talked about how they are like seeds. Then she wanted to go and see the seeds turn into plant right then. LOL

    And we're off...

Jack finally took off officially this afternoon. My camera was too slow to catch over 1/2 of it, but he started from the far side of the briefcase! He was scootching pretty good.

    The Gilmore Girls

are now over. No more Tuesday nights with my fave girls. I just can NOT believe how it ended. It was a great episode, but for a seven year show it was going out with a whimper.

    http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20039039,00.html
This is a great article. It recaps very nicely. And there is a great link to Kirk's greatest moments countdown as well.

I guess it is like the end of an era for me. I first found the Gilmore's when John and I were just beginning. I was fresh from college and was single. Then I got married and had Dory. They were there day in and day out on DVD when I was home alone with the new baby stuck on the couch exhausted and learning to nurse and seeing a great mom and daughter team was wonderful. It brought me hope and provided me with companionship when everyone I knew was working and I had no support team like CM or NTC is for me now. No one else I knew had kids yet. But Lorelai did. I guess it is pretty bad to say that they were what I had, but in many ways, and many days... it is what I had. I can always go back and watch past episodes, but it is much like looking through a memory book. It's not the same thing as walking and talking and sharing something new with them. Or a cup of coffee. *sigh* It's a lot like when a beloved pet dies. I will never call Becky to come over and watch a new Tuesday episode with me again. I will never have the same anticipation for a day of the week as a moment of relief, knowing that I can sit back and relax among friends who are smart and witty, strong and oh so trendy.
I guess I could blame Lorelai on my obsession after Dory was born in not being a sweat pants mom. I started caring more about me and my appearance after a few months and bought myself more clothes than I ever had before. It was glorious. It made me feel really GOOD about myself. I could be a mom and super cool. In fact, more trendy and cool than I had perhaps ever been before.
Okay, so I can't just love the amounts of junk they ate.
My life will go on, of course... but seriously, I am mourning.
    I just can't believe it's really over.
la la la, la la la lala, la la la, lalala la la la la la la.....

Pics from Auntie's house last week.

We have been spending some time down in South Carolina with Auntie this past 2 weeks. During which Jack has gotten some much needed floor time allowing him to spend some considerable time learning to crawl. So far he only scoots backwards, but it won't be long at this rate!
I know the pictures above as a bit fuzzy, but I really like them that way. I like how they have an essence of the life the kids have and how much they move. I like how the soft focus allows you to get an overall impression rather that focus on how Dory's hair is growing or Jack's is either. You see it, but just can't focus on it. It's impressionistic. In the video below, if you make it to aprx 1:40 you will see Jack working hard on crawling and getting some serious baby toe pushups in. I'm impressed. I could not do it! Dory wants so much to be both a big girl and a baby.. and you get to see some of her antics in the video as well. I was telling her at the beginning no to knock Jack over again, as she just had. Amazingly Jack did not care a bit.

A tooth! and a flurry of development...

Little Man Jack finally popped his very first tooth yesterday on the way home from Auntie's house! I think it was just a fluke that I even noticed.... he wasn't fussy or anything in the slightest the last few days, just normal Jack. I guess he has been working so very hard at becoming mobile that he hasn't had the time to think about that tooth cutting through. It still cannot be seen, of course, but you can certainly feel it if he bites down! It has officially popped though the skin.

Last Wednesday (the 2nd of May) he sat up all on his own for the first time, right after we got back from Aunties too. I didn't see that again until this morning right as I started to post about the new tooth! Now, in a span of just a few minutes Jack has sat up two separate times as skootching around on the floor getting to different toys. He is so very close to crawling, but can not get his knees moving just yet, so he readjusts his hands and ends up moving backwards or 90 degrees to the left.

    NCFOM

North Carolina Friends of Midwives has introduced legislation to legalize Certified Professional Midwives here in North Carolina. NCFOM has worked very hard to put together a good bill that should not affect lay midwives or current status of Certified Nurse Midwives. I too hope that the midwife we choose for Jack's birth can soon practice legally here in NC. We had a very safe uneventful birth, but her legalization would have made any transports to the hospital even safer for the baby and I should something had gone wrong. It didn't, and we are thankful. Statistics, clear unmuddled ststistics, show that for a low risk birth, homebirthing is SAFER than a homebirth. NC-- Please legalize my CPM!!!

Steve Jobs finally replied to the Greenpeace campaign, and he had some wonderful things to say! I am actually quite impressed with the stance he has taken and the strides already made. Kudos to Apple.
