    Shopping

Last night was the first frost of the season and since we were heading out first thin gin the morning, we all had to dress a bit warm. we were doing great pulling things back out.... until... we realized Dory had no coat yet, her 3T pants were high waters all of the sudden and the 3T shirt that she SWAM in last winter was 3/4 sleeved now. Uh, oh. So after our picture appointment, we set off shopping. We have finally hit a new milestone with Dory in that I made her try on almost everything in the store rather than just purchasing. We found a good coat right off the bat, a few long sleeve shirts, one short sleeve fall type shirt, lots of socks to go with her new shoes I had been saving in the back of the closet and a pair of jeans. I had no idea that she hit a growth spurt this past month, but it seems that Fall is just her time of year. I swear, she did this last year too! Odd thing is, her brand new jeans are also size 3T, but a completely different brand and over 3 inches longer!!! Most everything else fits great with room to grow at 4T. I just had no intention on clothes shopping today, but it's what we ended up doing. She was pretty happy to give John a runway show when he came home, she was most pleased with her new coat. Fall fashion, Dory sale rack style. Good grief. LOL It wore Mommy slap out.

    In one year

He started breathing, nursing, started smiling, laughing, started babbling, rolling over, started crawling, sitting up, started walking.
He noticed me, his daddy and sister, his dog, his family, the big things, the minute things, the dog hair covered things.
He hung on tight to me, to the couch, the chair.
Explored the upstairs, the downstairs, the corners, the bathrooms, in crevices, the grass, the pool, the insides of mouths.
Attacked his sister, his Daddy, Mommy, the dog.
Looked stoic, angry, anguished, amused, devious, exuberant.
He pooped green, real green.. then pooped yellow like he should.
Discovered his hands, his toes, his counterpart. He made best friends with that one.
He said a Mama, Dada, Dwg, Dor, waved bye-bye and signed milk and fan.
He went through over 4 clothing sizes.
Made his thoughts, emotions, wants and needs known.
    Loved us.

    He changed our lives.
What a busy year he had.
What a busy year we had.

Happy Birthday Son. Mommy loves you.

    Eating

For the second day Jack has eaten quite a bit. He's in heaven with it really. I have finally broken out the baby food, Happy Baby organic/frozen cubes, and he's really quite happy. Last night he had 2 cubes of the Great Grains, which is quiona and bananas... tonight he had 2 of carrots. He's had them before, but this was a step up in quantity. I guess we are finally at that point. Man, I hate this point and poop though. :(

Dory also had a special food day. Daddy (with Mommy's okay, not that he needed it) gave Dory CAKE before dinner. LOL, yes, desert came first. She, however, decided that she likes her cake dry - not drowned in milk like Daddy. John is crushed and asking for a paternity test.

    Walking, talking and teeth

He got good today, we did some long overdue house cleaning and he just took off. No toys in his way to stop him. Zigging here, zagging there... stopping, turning and heading in a new direction... chasing the dog, chasing his sister, always chasing mommy.

He is also trying very hard to say his sister's name. It' so cute. Half the time is also mans the dog, but hey, it's still cute.

On the bottom, 4th tooth, on the left if you are facing him. :) Poor kid, so many teeth recently.

    Thank goodness it's edible.

I learned why you don't leave a toddler and a preschooler together in the bathtub for any length of time together today. It's not about drowning, it about that half a bottle of conditions she lathers her brother in and the shampoo bottle that looses over 1/3 the same way... the water was thick with it, the bottles had been full. Thank goodness I don't pay full price due to the buying clubs I belong to! For the record, it wasn't organic, but it was edible - it was Burt's Bees Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo and Conditioner.

Bottom line, they both smell great and all it cost me was about 4$ worth... and note to self, don't walk away for a second.

    Amber

I have finally made Jack his amber teething necklace. It looks so good on him. It reminds me of Craig across the street, and his shell necklace. John's not so sure about it, but not protesting... he's just not one for jewelry on men.
Amber teething necklaces are not for chewing, but are supposed to work by laying against the skin. They have been used for centuries and are highly praised among those who have used them.... so it's worth a try! Amber is a resin and not a mineral or gemstone and supposedly has anti-inflamitory properties. I have more info on it on my JonquilMom site... At the very least, I think it is super cute. I'm amazed that he has not tried once to pull it off at all. He won't leave a hat on, but this seems to be completely different. Go figure. It does have a magnetic clasp so if it were to be pulled it would pop off rather than choke. Every chip is also individually knotted too, so if it breaks they won't scatter. :D

    Walking

More and more the last day or so, so much that I feel good about saying "He's walking!" In fact this afternoon he followed me down the hall all the way from the kitchen. He fell 2 steps before Daddy could see it... quite the feat for him. So, it's official, he was walking before a year!

    Asheville for Auntie's Birthday

We headed to Asheville yesterday to celebrate Tricia's long overdue birthday. We met for lunch at Tupelo Honey Cafe, ate really well - organic, local, gluten free, and the regular ones of our party - they accommodated us all. It was delicious. They make one he11 of a goat cheese omelet, btw. From there we headed over to the nature center for the Hey Day that they had going on. We saw black bears, cougars, bob cats, deer, a draft horse... even a baby ferret. Dory made a necklace of leaves for Auntie. We all wore ourselves out pretty well.
On the way up we turned Jack's car seat around thinking he would really like it... we were so wrong. He squalled. He could SEE Mommy, but could not GET Mommy. We stopped just shy of I-40 and turned him right back around. He was asleep in 5 minutes. Good Grief. As I was turning him around, I saw the incision in his mouth for his new tooth. Overall, it was a wonderful trip. It was short and not everything I would have loved it to be, but you can only do so much with a two kids, no money and a few hours. LOL We all had a great time.
My camera ran out of juice, so I had to resort to my camera phone, but I do not have a way to download those right now. :( So these pics will have to do.

    Me and the Bud.

    Where is Auntie and Yon?

"no specific method of initiation of breastfeeding has been widely recommended by the scientific community"????

Place kiddo's mouth on (or near) momma's nipple. Repeat as necessary. It's self-contained and fairly explanatory.*

How much more specific do you need to get?

*with thanks to the Coen Bros.

LOL, but considering that it can take up to 60 minutes for it to happen and hospitals are so antsy to weigh, measure, stick, prod, poke, and generally mess with the newborn.... well.... there DO need to be more guidelines... like LEAVE THEM ALONE or ONLY help them with feeding, wait for everything else...

I feel bad for John. He's had a bad day... he's sick, his throat hurts and his new game was taken offline. He had won a beta slot for a new online WWW type game that he was really enjoying and they took it down without warning on him. :(

    First Words

Jack decided to say something other than mama and dada today. He said 'bye-bye' as he was waving! It was clear and repeated more than one. All that while he had a raging fever today. It came and went throughout the day, and a rash cropped up on his abdomen but began to fade as quickly as it appeared. No other symptoms, just a wimpy, clingy, cuddly and overtired feverish kiddo who decided to start talking.

Dory's First Official Tea Party... and I think Mommy's too!

Amy had a Bridal Tea on Friday, the afternoon of the Rehearsal, and Dorothy and I were invited (Jack too, but we pawned him off on Daddy). Dory was so very well behaved, I was so proud of her. Our Hostess was wonderful and the food was amazing, absolutely beautiful! Dory enjoyed every last bite...

(I apologize to the lovely ladies in this picture... you are all way more beautiful than the awful pose I caught everyone in.... especially Amy.)

The flower girls and Dory were so very well behaved, and became fast friends.

One of the first real Dory pictures in quite awhile...

Then we get this protest. lol

    The Price Family

They did it!! They did it!!

Welcome to our family Amy! I know this family isn't built on blood, but it is chosen with love, and we welcome you with open arms.

Clay, I am so glad you found someone as awesome as you are to bring 'home' to us, you better take good care of her! Oh, and bring her to visit more... we need to see more of you both.

    The wedding was amazing.

    The Recycling Man

He just stopped off at our house to get our two buckets out front and he sped through separating our stuff out until he came to one item. I could see him clearly out the window, but could not see what he was studying so intently. He looked like he was reading, and then tossed it in with the paper/cardboard.... at that point I saw what held his attention: Daddy's postcard to Dory from 3 weeks ago that she had colored all over and I finally threw out. I wanted to run out and grab it back, something about him reading it made it more sentimental. I can't quit describe it, I didn't mind him reading it, but it made it more special John's love for Dory being proclaimed for all to see. (Not that anyone can't see it any other time.) I guess it is akin to the stack of old letters tied with a string up in Grandma's attic that read of people we barely knew and are yet such and insight, so personal....

While it may make you a little teary-eyed, think what a wonderful gift it was for a tired garbage man on an otherwise uneventful Thursday. Maybe he went home and hugged his kids a little more or called his parents to say "thank you."

Or, he's illiterate and this was one more example of a cruel world laughing at him...nahh, he probably hugged his kids.

    Bye-Bye

Jack hit yet another milestone today.... He waved 'Bye-Bye' on command. We were telling Dory that we were going to turn off the TV in order to take John to work, for her to say bye-bye to the program, and Jack waved. We saw it and said it again, again he waved. Time to brush up on all of out sign language again!
