    Good Morning!

Thanks everyone!!! I got some great pictures of Dory this morning hold Jack for the first time. I hope to add them to the gallery this afternoon. They are some great ones too.

It's amazing to me, I feel better after this birth than I did with Dory and I was on advil AFTER she was born and have not had a drop of anything this go around.

And get this, we all had over a solid 5 hours of sleep last night!!!! From 2:30 am until about 8am, solid. Now, THAT would have NEVER happend in the hospital! I am so glad to be at home.....

    :)

We are doing really well, he's nursing like a champ. 7#10 & 20 1/8" After that last tub post, things went full force. I was planning on a water birth, but it ended up being in the living room in a modified squat. Daddy caught him, and I cut the cord over 2 hours later. I am ready for bed, but feeling really great... and am SOOOO glad not to be at the hospital right now. Even John, the orignal no way at home man, is now sold. It's amazing, he looks almost just like his sister did.... who is absolutely enthralled, BTW.

    Calming down

Well thing are calming down in the house. S has run off for a little bit, and Dory is headed out to see fish at Concorn Mills... and it has taken over 20 minutes to actually type this, so I'm not too worried about overstimulation right now. And, as I said... slow labors are what I seem to do well with. (I typed as another ctx started...)

    Walking

I'm expecting it will be at least another few hours. We just took a walk around the 'block' (but it's more like a football shaped area with lots of trees that is close to the house, not a euphemism) and got things stirring agin, but they still are not close togther like they were at one point. They are however still very productive when they hit!

Dory and Daddy just said that I sounded like a race car!

I think tricia will be taking her to see the fish at the mall soon as well as go and get something to eat with Grandma and Grandpa.... I know this is hard on them waiting!

I am apparently a slow birther, and for all the well wishes for a speedy delivery, I'm just fine wtih the time frame!

John is currently snoring, BTW. I'm so boring.

    Update...

Well, things got really intense, but slowed down for awhile to let me rest some.... they are starting back up again. Even when they slowed down in frequency they have been getting more intense.
S, my midwife is on her way, as is Tricia to take care of Dory who is miraculously sleeping in! My doula, Lara is already here. We're on our way!

    Calls have been made...

Our midwife has been alerted, and Tricia is on her way up already.
Contractions are about every 5 minutes or so, give or take for anywhere ranging from 30 -50 seconds... :)
We are running around attempting to get last second things done... dishes, cleaning, clearing pathwaysadngeneral sorts of things... what they call putsy-putsy I guess.
We'll be calling our doula, Lara, next.
At this point, feel free to leave a comment, BUT DO NOT CALL!!!!

    It's showtime!

I'm in labor, it started last night around 8:30 and has gotten stronger all night. We did manage to sleep some, me being awakened by contractions every few minutes, but I'll be darned if he doesn't come today. :)

    Thankfully, Dory is still sleeping.

Apparently, I can't predict birth times and days... just when labor starts.

    No labor started....

It doesn't look like Jack will make his appearance today at this point. I figured late today, but labor still isn't really going and well... I don't think I would be having one of those breakneck speed labors. And Dory just revised her guess to Tuesday this morning. *sigh* A few good contractions here and there, but not becoming regular in any way. I so don't want a Halloween baby, other than it would be a very serious Trick or Treat surprise for the stupid teens that knock on dim porches. Now THAT would be funny! November 1st would be better, but after starts and fits over the past 4 days, I really did think today would be it. I guess if I had not stalled out for 2 days that maybe it would, stress can do it. That would account for Dory's 2 day delay.
And this morning had been so promising.....

    Sewing

    1. Well, I did get John's Mei Tai finished... it has Yankee logo navy blue fleece on one side and a cream colored cotton baseball print on the other. John was really pleased.
    2. The other one that I managed to finish was Becky's buckling Mei Tai. Beta version 2.0 looks like it is a winner. I finally have the correct pattern going! Straps and buckles are all in the correct place. It feels good to have it finished, she's been wanting me to fix the other one for about a month. I finally just started it over rather than ripping it appart to move things, it was just easier.
    3. I have cut all the pieces to MY new Mei Tai, but don't know when I will get finished. Maybe I'll get it finished later tonight.

    More of the same...

Nothing exciting, but things seem to be starting back up again. Very light Braxtons. There is a good chance that they will stop when I go to bed tonight.

I went walking at the mall this afternoon with Mom in order to find Dory a present from Jack... I think I found the perfect thing. You'll find out what it is when she does!!! :D I hope she finds it very special and that this helps the bonding between them. Jack will 'give' it to her as soon as they meet.

John made more bread today, and went to confession & church tonight... I have no idea if we will make it to Sunday School in the morning. I have been assuming that we will not be going, but honestly, if I'm not in full fledge labor, we probably should... so, we will see in the morning how things are going. Other than that, the water heater got turned way up, the house was vacuumed, dishes are done and diapers have been washed along with other laundry... the house is really pretty ready.

If anything exciting happens or things really start to pick up, I will be all means let you all know.

And I have every intention as soon after birth as I can to post pics for everyone, or send a PIX message to cell phones if you have one that will work for that. :)

    Food and predictions.

Well, I made it, albit late, to the food co-op pick up this am... and have run to the grocery as well for a few things... It feels SOOOO good to have all of the food. I guess it is food nesting.
John is running out later to get a shelving unit for out storage closet for dry goods that don't need to go into the deep freezer my Mom just gave us. Woo Hoo!!! It's like our own little grocery out there! *sigh* I'm such a dork.
John is also baking more bread and just made me an apple crisp.... his apple crisps are soooo yummy. And while he is out this afternoon, I'll be baking some cookies. Sound like some serious nesting? I think so.

Anyway, no more news other than more unplugging going on... John asked Dory this am, or last night one, when she thought Jack would come and listed off the days of the week. She quickly responded "Sunday". She's been right many times before, almost a bit psychic, so I believe her. John thinks so too.

Dory's arm seems to be as good as always now.

    Evening Update

Blah... no real news other than some nesting has been accomplished. The kitchen has been cleaned up, a few things placed into the attic, went out for cloth for the back door windows so everyone doesn't get to gawk as they drive through the alley, finally put a latch on the deep freezer and put in a thermometer so we can start using it (nesting doesn't have to make sense...), baked by proxy (John is baking bread for me), and several other little things. Now I am going to reformat my iPod since it has decided to botch again (the nanos do that occasionally, but it's not a big deal) and go to bed.

Dory's arm is just a muscle strain and she should be pretty much fine in the morning. I will say thought that today has been one MASSIVE tantrum. Like she is getting the twos out in ONE DAY. You think she knows something?

    On into the afternoon...

and there is nothing of note, just more mucus plug and pressure. No contractions other than occasional Braxtons.

Dory however had the most massive meltdown ever in the middle of one of our errands around noon. Ba and I carried her out and in the process might just have sprained her wrist or elbow. She is still melting down so I guess we'll know more after her nap. All I know is it still hurts 1.5 hours later. No, nothing is broken. Yes, she'll be just fine.... but she is NOT happy. Well, all I want to say is: Listen and obey next time!!!!! *sigh*

    And it begins......

*****TMI WARNING!!! BIRTH RELATED INFO TO FOLLOW!*****

I can say that so far we have a VERY obedient son. His Daddy told him a few days ago that he was not allowed to come until at least Thursday due to a major upheaval at work. Just before John left the house this morning, he told Jack that he had the all clear. Apparently he heard. There was nothing when I first woke up this morning, but at 9am when John walked out the door, both my mucas plug and bloody show made their appearence!

So, it begins. Most women go into labor within the next few days after that. Daddy's guess is tomorrow (predicted about a week and a half ago), mine is still holding at birth on Sunday.

No contractions yet, but today I will be doing all of the last minute nesting that I can!

    True TMI-
I checked my cervix this morning in the shower after the bloody show.... and my finger want ALL THE WAY through. I've touched the baby! (With sac still in tact...) Now that, my friends, was really COOL. Okay, TMI over.

    A new 'do

I went to get my hair cut at the Aveda Institute this afternoon, and sadly had to take Dory with me. I couldn't wait any longer for a hair cut and had no other time slots that I could take. That and my rockin' stylist Elledge (sorry if I spelled it wrong! I wish you the best!!!) graduates in just a few short weeks. How sad am I?

Anyway, Dory had a BLAST!!! She is DYING to go and get another hair cut now. While there: the girls played with her, put her hair up in curlers, gave her the grand tour twice, told her how beautiful she is, gave her a sucker (her first & she didn't eat it), 'styled' her hair, and the real kicker that she was so proud of...... painted her tiny nails sparkly purple!!!!

At this point both of the thumbs have been stripped of their color... but I did get the pix! And let me add, after this morning, she was a perfect angel this afternoon.

    Tantrum alley.

Well, the past 2 days have started out quite well with tantrums. Yeah. (note the LACK of enthusiasm...) We are normally so good around here, but these past two mornings have been rough. This am we were supposed to be joining our mommy group for coffee and breakfast dressed up for Halloween. I tried to get Dory dressed, and she screamed in a puddle on the floor the whole way. The event was at 9:30, at 11am she had calmed down and said that she wanted to go and see her friends. When I told her it was too late, she replied no, it's not dark outside. So, these are the lessons we now have to be learning.

We started with the clock this past week, and so far so good... apparently it was just in 'time'. Anyway, no coffee for this tired mommy today.

We have been working on getting her to understand what whining is and that it will NOT get her what she wants, as well as the boneless meltdowns, and overall we're doing really well with that... I can't figure out what has triggered these two meltdowns.

I will say, this was the first time I had to miss something that I wanted to do as a way of punishment, it sucks.

    Dropping?

Well, to my knowledge, Dory never really dropped... but Lesli declared today when she saw me at the Charlotte Mommies 4th birthday party that I looked very different from Friday. Since I woke up it has been a bit difficult getting around, much like I have a bowling ball wedged in my pelvis. So... I guess he has dropped. Now that said, I have also heard that second, third and so on can drop and then bounce back up... going back and forth several times, so we'll see if he stays put.

    Lottttts of pressure. And waddling.

    Our morning...

So Dory is out of my sight for 3 minutes this morning while we are all attempting to get out the door and get our day started. What does she do in 3 minutes? Seasons the ottoman with Montreal Steak Seasoning.... A very thick layer since it is a bulk size container she is pouring it out of, 2-3 normal bottles worth covered the fabric and floor. I vaccumed, but it still smells like a yumy steak downstairs!

    Dory's Birth Story...

So, as I look forward to giving birth to Jack, I have a natural desire to compare my expectations of the impending event to Dory's story. I know I shouldn't, that every birth is completely different and that I certainly do not want to overshadow his story with hers. That said, I know that *I* have never blogged her account and I know that Jack's will soon be up for all to read. Therefore, it makes sense to add Dory's now.

Much of what follows is my recollection at 6 months along with other info that I didn't include then due to space issues in the baby book... And John should feel free to correct or add his memories to the comments section (please sweetie?)
    _______________________________________________________________

On Monday I started contracting in the early morning, about 2am. They went away by the early afternoon and I had spent much of the morning in the bath tub relieving some of the discomfort that they were causing and ding final nesting things. The contractions were accompanied with bloody show and part of the mucus plug.

On Tuesday, the same thing happened, early am contractions! John stayed home with me since he was very excited and we had a wonderful day together doing us things, but again, they stopped at about noon.

Wednesday and Thursday were more of the same, contractions and bloody show that went away with time only (didn't matter what I was doing, I was having steady contractions) and John being very excited and sticking around, us doing stuff together. In the afternoons, when he was disappointed at the lack of a main event, he would head into work for a few hours.

    Friday started very similar!
However, they didn't stop. They got much stronger (not so much regulated though) and by 5am I had already taken more than one long bath to ease the pain. As the day went, they kept getting stronger, and not regulated.
By noon we had called our Doula, Lara Miller, to let her know that today was going to be the day since she has 3 kids and could use the bit of warning. We stayed at home until 11pm that night before making the 35 minute drive to our hospital and CNM, Bobbie Kimsey. Some of it was Lara's urging, but I knew that I wanted to labor at home for as long as I could. I didn't want to have issues at the hospital with someone tampering with the labor or attempting to give me a needle (again, needle phobic here).
Bobbie had told me that as long as I was hydrated upon admittance that it was fine and we could forgo even a heplock. I had been practically gulping water between every contraction the whole time, I have never been more hydrated than I was then.
I really thought at that point that Dorothy would have been born by 2am, but we were very wrong.
The stress on me of the hospital admittance (the nurses there didn't believe me about no needle and they had to find Bobbie to confirm it with her) caused me to plateau and I didn't progress much after that. I am willing to put good money on it that my cervix closed up a good bit on the way to the hospital too.... (YES, it CAN do that!!!) The contractions were intense and I managed the pain once there with low moaning (much like a cow's moo), walking, taking showers, and even singing - everything that I could think of to control the pain naturally. It did work! I did labor some on the toilet since i was drinking, but that just hurt like HELL. (We did however flood the shower, bathroom and part of the LDR room since John's foot ended up on the drain... It took us forever to figure that out, we even had ever available towel on the floor sopping it up!) Some of the nurses at the hospital thought I was a bit odd - not wanting drugs of any kind, but I knew in my heart it was best for both Dorothy and me not to.
Labor slowed down twice; I was threatened with both Pitocin and Cervidil and would not accept. We got it going again both times without medical intervention. (Nipple stimulation, *blech*)
I was nearly (well, pretty much was) sleeping throughout the contractions at the end I was so tired at that point. John was awesome, staying right by my side giving me strength when I needed it. I wouldn't allow the poor guy to leave for any reason.
I was too tired at this point to make it back to the toilet so I went all over the chucks pads on the bed, this is what happens when you are forcing fluids, and the last thing I needed was the bladder to be in my way fo pushing. that would have just added more pain and complicated things.
    I ate PB&J sandwich, I think.

At about 7am Dory decided that she was ready and I started to push. It was at this point that my water finally broke. I felt her head as she crowned, but had NO interest in seeing it in a mirror. Two times I pushed too hard; on one of those times I should not have pushed at all... It was then that I gave myself a 3rd degree tear up. It was the ONLY time that I screamed the entire labor, that stinking hurt. At 7:36 on Saturday morning she was born.
She started nursing immediately. I had several stiches and was done. Never one needle except for the stiches.
Bobbie did want to give me Pitocin after birth to prevent hemmoraging, but I asked her if I was. She said "no" so I told her she could give it to me when I actually was, not before.
    We forewent the newborn eyedrops.
She was 6lbs 12ozs and 21 inches long.
Her hair had been matted with blood while crowing and Bobbie tried to tell me as she was crowing that she had brown hair. Even though I could not see her, I knew better and corrected them. She did indeed have blonde hair, and lots of it.

you ate bananas! And Auntie nearly fainted when I tried to bring her back to see you. She heard you moaning and starting crying. It was so sweet, she actually looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, "Why is she hurting her?" It was SO cute. I calmly reassured her that this is what you chose and it was what was best for you and Dorothy. I love this part of the story. Oh, and Ba got to hold her first because I beat everyone else to the delivery room ;)

Hobbies: softball, chorus, skating & going to the mall. Besides this information, he knew she lived in Canton because she had just told him. He knew she stayed by
herself until 6:30 p.m. every afternoon until her parents came home from work. He knew she played softball on Thursday afternoons on the school team, and the team
was named the Canton Cats. Her favorite number 7 was printed on her jersey. He knew she was in the eighth grade at the Canton Jr. High School. She had told him all this in the conversations they had on- line. He had enough information to find her now.

Shannon didn't tell her parents about the incident on the way home from the ballpark that day. She didn't want them to make a scene & stop her from walking home from the softball games. Parents were always overreacting & hers were the worst. It made her wish she was not an only child. Maybe if she had brothers & sisters, her parents wouldn't be so overprotective.

By Thursday, Shannon had forgotten about the footsteps following her. Her game was in full swing when suddenly she felt someone staring at her. It was then that the memory
came back. She glanced up from her second base position to see a man watching her closely. He was leaning against the fence behind first base & he smiled when she looked at him. He didn't look scary and she quickly dismissed the sudden fear she had felt.

After the game, he sat on a bleacher while she talked to the coach. She noticed his smile once again as she walked past him. He nodded & she smiled back. He noticed her name on the back of her shirt. He knew he had found her.

Quietly, he walked a safe distance behind her. It was only a few blocks to Shannon 's home, & once he saw where she lived he quickly returned to the park to get his car .
Now he had to wait. He decided to get a bite to eat until the time came to go to Shannon 's house. He drove to a fast food restaurant and sat there until time to make his move.

Shannon was in her room later that evening when she heard voices in the living room.
"Shannon, come here," her father called. He sounded upset & she couldn't imagine why. She went into the room to see the man from the ballpark sitting on the sofa.
"Sit down," her father began, "this man has just told us a most interesting story about you."
Shannon sat back. How could he tell her parents anything? She had never seen him before today!
"Do you know who I am, Shannon?" the man asked.
    "No," Shannon answered.
"I am a police officer and your online friend,GoTo123."
Shannon was stunned. "That's impossible! GoTo123 is a kid my age! He's 14. And he lives in Michigan !"
The man smiled. "I know I told you all that, but it wasn't true. You see, Shannon, there are people on-line who pretend to be kids; I was one of them. But while others do it to injure kids & hurt them, I belong to a group of parents who do it to protect
kids from predators. I came here to find you to teach you how dangerous it is to talk to people on-line. You told me enough about yourself to make it easy for me to find you. You named the school you went to, the name of your ball team and the position you played. The number and name on your jersey just made finding you a breeze."
Shannon was stunned. "You mean you don't live in Michigan ?"
He laughed. "No, I live in Raleigh. It made you feel safe to think I was so far away, didn't it?"
    She nodded.
"I had a friend whose daughter was like you. Only she wasn't as lucky. The guy found her & murdered her while she was home alone. Kids are taught not to tell anyone when they are alone, yet they do it all the time on-line. The wrong people trick you into giving out information a little here and there on-line. Before you know it, you have told them enough for them to find you without even realizing you have done it. I hope you've learned a lesson from this and won't do it again. Tell others about this so they will be safe too?"
    "It's a promise!"
That night Shannon and her Dad and Mom all knelt down together and thanked God for protecting Shannon from what could have been a tragic situation.

    Clear for 2 years!

Well, as I supposed earlier, the Judge that had me as a portion of the Jury pool immediately dismissed me since I could not promise that I wouldn't go into labor in the next 3 days or so that the criminal trial would last (larceny theft).

I told her that I was happy to serve, but that I was 37.5 weeks pregnant... she asked when my due date was, I answered November 3rd... she asked if it was my first child, I told her no. She mentioned that she watched me walk in and indeed I did look very close to dropping a baby at any moment.
That was enough for her... off I went.

They can call me to sit in a Jury pool in another 2 years. :) It was kinda cool doing my civic duty though, maybe next time I will get to see more of the process.

    Someone has learned to catch!

Yep, in a wonderful show of hand eye coordination as well as dexterity.... Dory is now actually catching a beach ball when we throw it to her! We have played ball for a few months, and today has been a breakthrough over the bounce it off her head manuver that we have been practicing! We have a video, but since my camera is dead right now, you will have to wait a few days for the video. ;)

    Serving Jury Duty

So, here it is, 1am, and I have to be up and at 'em in 6 hours in order to serve Jury Duty today... what am I still doing up? I don't know. I made cookies earlier tonight, watched Spanglish (which was really cute, BTW) and now I am updating my iPod with Enya's first album (the black and white one) among other things in order to have things to do while sitting on my bum for hours. I have a great childbirth book to reread, knitting that I can do, and a fluff parenting magazine to take with me as well. I will have to pack my lunch when I get up. John is taking the day off to stay home with Dory, and has fully warned me that the house should be a wreck when I return.... I am secretly hoping that they clean up a little bit since the house got dirty again this wekend with all of the other things we accomplished on the nesting list. I don't want to feel like I have to clean as soon as I go into labor... which I might add, I've been having warm up contractions for some of the night. Not labor, but still... not quite the Braxtons that I have had all pregnancy long. With Dory I had a weeks worth of warming up, which I just leaned this evening has a name - prodromal labor. I wonder if I will have this again, or if my body will just kick into gear this time. Hey, maybe I'll freak out the court and go into labor there.... nah, but it's a funny thought.... much like the kids in the neighborhood who ignore the blatenly off porch light on Halloween getting an eyeful of a homebirth.... TRICK OR TREAT!!! hahahahahahahahah..... the idea just thrills me for some sick reason.

Ack, now my iPod doesn't want to register on the computer and update... I hate to wipe and reformat it again... i certianly don't have the time tonight. I guess it is off to bed for me.

    Crazy hormones

So, today was the first time that *I* have felt the effects of pregnancy hormones distinctly. The day quickly went from as planned to completely not as planned and for a few hours I was on the verge of bawling because of it. Totally not anyone's fault, but I was ready to just loose it, huge ball in my throat and everything, choaking it back. By the end of the day, I was fine, but man.... It was rough there for awhile. I wonder what this means as far as baby's decision to make his appearance... Surely it's all connected.

On the upside.... And on a cute note.... I at one point told Dory that I was sorry because the day had not gone as Mommy had promised it would and she didn't really get to see her friends like I had told her she would when she woke up, when we were running errands and she was unhappy, when she went down for a nap, and so on..... Her response? A very soothing and fully meant, "That's okay, Mommy..."
I could just bawl all over again thinking of how sweet and understanding it was, and how it means that my little girl is growing up.

    Ren Fest

Dory and her Monkey (aka Little John) goof off playing like knights and dragons...

Just like 2 years ago, Dory is not sure about Mother Goose's advances.... all she wanted was a hug!

    Mom babysat tonight

as we went to our last homebirth class. She had a great story for us when we came home. You see, Grandpa George had come earlier to use our computer to finish up his taxes (everyone I know postponed this year) and was sitting downstairs after he had just finished and was attempting to have a conversation with Mom. Well, Dory was quite sure she still needed attention and was interrupting, (you know - typical 2 year old 'you can't tak to any one but me' type antics) so Mom told her to sit in the chair and let them finish talking for just a minute... nothing bad right?
Well, apparently Dory got quiter and quiter and then in a small voice asked....

    "Am I being punished?"

    So.... we've cleaned.

We cleaned all weekend long,3 long days for me, two for John, with the exception of a football game and a short excursion to the Ren Fest.... but the house has never looked better. We hired help to do the actual dirt pick-up and did a ton of laundry and putting away ourselves. It feels really good to have finally gotten something really tangable dine. John didn't even blink when I gave him his list to do.... as I said, still wearing my wedding band!
So, Sadie, out heroic cleaning lady, was here ALL DAY - quite literally - and never did run screaming from the house. I am beyond impressed!!! I have to sweep down a few cobwebs, but all in all, the whole house is now clean and dirt free... from the ceiling fans to the base boards and everything in between! (Now, I'll be honest, John peeked into the microwave and seemed a bit disappointed when I told him that was not included...) Mopped, vaccumed, cleaned the bathrooms (she was a granted sainthood instantly for that one), our faucets sparkle, the library shelves are dust free, the cabinet doors are clean and dust free as well!
We are getting really close to being ready for this new addition!

    Blatent Bragging...

At 36 weeks and 1 day, I am still wearing my wedding band with little sign of needing to take it off!

You can take that any way you want since I did subject John to housework via nesting today. He was a great sport about it. :)

    Homeschooling.... :)

When a child busts a lip, and after seeing she's okay, you round up
some Scotch tape to capture some blood and look at it under the microscope.

You find dead animals and actually consider saving them to dissect later.

Your children never, ever leave the "why?" stage.

You look at every room in your home to try and imagine how to squeeze
    in another bookshelf.

You turn your china cabinet into book shelves.

When your teenager decides to take one community college course, and
comes home and asks you why the teacher wrote "At" on his paper. (A+)

You ask for, and get, a copier instead of a diamond tennis bracelet
    for your wedding anniversary.

Your kids think reading history is best accomplished while lying on
the floor with their head resting on the side of their patient dog.

Your husband can walk in at the end of a long day and tell how the
science experiment went just by looking at the house.

You never have to drive your child's forgotten lunch to school.

Your child will never suffer the embarrassment of group showers after PE.

The only debate about the school lunch program is whose turn it is to cook.

You never have to face the dilemma of whether to take your child's
side or the teacher's side in a dispute at school.

Your neighbors think you are insane.

Your kids learn new vocabulary from their extensive collection of
    "Calvin & Hobbes" books.

Your formal dining room now has a computer, copy machine, and many
book shelves and there are educational posters and maps all over the walls.

You have meal worms growing in a container....on purpose.

If you get caught talking to yourself, you can claim you're having a
    PTA meeting.

Talking out loud to yourself is a parent/teacher conference.

You take off for a teacher in-service day because the principal needs
    clean underwear.

You can't make it through a movie without pointing out the historical
    inaccuracies.

You step on math manipulatives on your pre-dawn stumble to the bathroom.

The teacher gets to kiss the principal in the faculty lounge and no
    one gossips.

Your honor student can actually read the bumper sticker that you put
    on your car.

If your child claims that the dog ate his homework, you can ask the dog.

Someday your children will consider you to be a miracle-working
expert and will turn to you for advice.

Your kids refer to the neighbor kids as "government school inmates."

You can't make it through the grocery produce department without
asking your preschooler the name and color of every vegetable.

You can't put your produce in your cart without asking your older
student to estimate its weight and verify its accuracy.

You live in a one-house schoolroom.

    WARNING! Serious question ahead.

Something I've always wondered about: How do home-schoolers make sure their kids get adequate socialization with other children in their own age groups?

    1:13 PM
    Blogger Jenny said...

Serious answer: by going to other activities, i.e. church or sports, and joining a local homeschool group that does some things together, such as fieldtrips. I knew a few in high school who were perfectly normal, in fact, they were better than we were in both education and social skills.

Smartass answer: Are you saying you were properly socialized?!?!?!?! Let's get serious!

    3:41 PM
    Blogger Ted said...

Oh, please! Of course I'm not properly socialized! But my socialization issues stem from my home life, not my schooling.

A mouse ate all the raisens out of the very large heel of Raisen bread...

Got out the highlighters and colored...

Put them away and then pulled out the entire length of whiteout from my correction 'pen'....

And then decided to become a banana grabbing monkey who is VERY proud, apparently, of being breastfed for over 2 years. (The bracelets once in individual baggies, now covering her arm, were supposed to go to other mommies I know who didn't make it to the Breastfeeding Challenge meeting on Saturday morning... oh well.) Posted by Picasa

I forgot to mention that on Saturday and Sunday, my hips decided to explode due to the relaxin hormone (actually is released during pregnancy to help relax the ligaments between the pelvic bones so that the baby can pass through) and I was in PAIN all day both days. It's much better now, and thankfully so, because it really hurt to move in just about any direction, especially sideways. And if I had been sitting for any length of time, forget it, it was excruciating! I guess I would rater have that discomfort over potential problems that would happen if my body was not preparing for childbirth, but it certainly was not pleasant.
With Dory's pregnancy I remember the ligament wearing away at my bone on both sides of my hip... I have not had to deal with that this go around at all, I guess once done, always done. I also had sciatica pain last time, next to none this time.
Anyway, we are now in the home stretch and doing well, prepping physically and externally. :)

    35.5 weeks preggers with Jack

This would be the basketball that I have been carrying around with me... the majority of my 24 extra pounds so far. :) All of the stretch marks are remainders from Dory, Jack has yet to add to them. Let's see....

    News....

    Nesting,
The crib is back up in it's new life as Jack's bed. :) Another thing scratched off the nesting list. Now I want to paint glow in the dark stars on Dory's ceiling as a treat for her. A house cleaner is due by in another week to help us with the layer of dirt and dog hair we have. Now, if I could just get the home birth supplies cheaply rounded up without patronizing Wal-Mart, whom I boycott.

Pregnancy (33 days till due date),
Yesterday my hips started hurting like HELL. The pubic bone hurt a few weeks ago, but this is certainly different. It's excruciating to move at times in certain directions, so I am trying to keep up with my exercises -- they should help some.
I actually read last night that -seriously- belly dancing is supposed to help in labor and contractions. So, yep, I'll break out the belly dancing kit that we got last Christmas at the Sunday School White Elephant party and start practicing. (Attached to it was the pic of a newborn in the class-- a warning of what use of this would do for you. There was quite a bidding war on it! We then created a waiting list for it... And we are all due in the next two months. Apparently the waiting list is dangerous too....) Maybe the finger cymbals will help.... I wonder if the little stick-on jewels will stay put during a waterbirth... humm.....
Anyway, other than that, I feel great still and this am was the first time that my ring finger was swollen enough that I was not sure I should be wearing it, it did come off easily though... I still don't swell often or for long.

    Sewing,
I finally got my hands on some PUL (waterproof fabric often used for dipes)(Thank you Sharon!!!) and made a diaper hanging pail/liner for upstairs so that I don't have to remember to bring every singe one down until wash day. And the whole thing will go straight into the wash. Now to make a wet bag for the diaper bag as well.
I also made my first ring sling.... And it might just be the HUGE belly in the way, but at the moment, it is just NOT comfy.... Maybe the fabric is too stiff still... I guess I'll figure it out soon. On that same subject, I am very close to having a buckling Mei Tai up for sale on my sling site, Ba has the FrankenTai prototype at the moment and is keeping me informed of all of it's shortcomings.

    Food,
And, now on a food related note, we started this week with a local food co-op for natural foods... We get 100% grass fed organic raw milk, cheeses and meats straight from a farmer twice a month and order our other foods such as cereal and regular items from a catalog once a month for 20-40% off grocery store prices! That is on top of our organic produce delivery we get every two weeks... And let me tell you, the apples are the best! The three groups will cover just about everything except the massive amounts of bananas that we go through every two days and the horrible for you treats that we will occasionally still want to consume. It feels good to have it pretty much figured out before Jack got here and I was too busy to learn how it all works. This also means far fewer trips to the grocery for us, something that I think will be quite enjoyable.
Also, John is on another wonderful bread baking spell. He has in teh past two days produced some of his all time best loaves. One Half Wheat & Rye loaf and one Oatmeal Raisen loaf. Yummmmmm.
